Super 7R Edger Disc Size by Model
The model number picks the manual
“Super 7R” is not one abrasive size. American Sanders prints a different abrasive line for different model numbers. Read the data plate, then the manual for that number. A disc that fits the pad retainer can still be the wrong diameter.
| Models | What that manual prints | Manual |
|---|---|---|
| 07125A, 07013A, 07013B | 7 in × 7 7/8 in diameter disc, 2800 rpm | Super 7R operator manual, form 079600 |
| 07098A, 07099A, 07243A | 7 in × 7/8 in disc, disc rate 2800 | Super 7R 230V operator manual |
Do not collapse those two lines into one order. A 7 inch disc and a 7 7/8 inch disc are different diameters. This page does not assign either line to a model that is not in that table.
Both manuals install the disc the same way: remove the screw and the abrasive retainer, center the disc on the pad, and put the retainer and screw back. Both say not to park the machine on the pad after use. The elastomer takes a flat spot and the edger bounces.
Do not invent the center hole
The 079600 manual calls the abrasive a 7 inch by 7 7/8 inch diameter disc. That second figure is printed as the diameter, not as a hole.
The 230-volt manual prints “7 in × 7/8 in disc” and does not label the 7/8 as the arbor. The same manual does say, in its accessory rules, that the arbor hole has to fit the spindle. A hole that does not match the mounting hardware runs out of balance. That is a warning. It is not a part number.
If a listing says “7/8 inch center hole” and your manual’s line is the 7 7/8 inch diameter, those are not the same specification. Match the printed line. If your model is not in the table, use that machine’s manual. This page does not cover other edgers.
What the 230-volt manual says about the cut
Only the 230-volt manual, for 07098A, 07099A, and 07243A, prints a grit sequence:
- Initial cut: coarse, 20 to 36 grit, to take old finish and high spots. If it glazes or burns immediately, go coarser. If it glazes during the cut, the disc is dull.
- Final cut: 60 to 80 grit, to take out the coarse scratches. If the floor is still rough, that manual allows 80 to 100. It also says a very fine grain can close the pores so stain sits on the surface.
The 079600 manual for 07125A, 07013A, and 07013B does not print that grit list. Do not copy it onto those models. The drum-and-edger sequence used on a typical oak floor is a separate guide: sanding belt grit sequence. Keep the edger on the same grit as the drum pass you just finished, or the border shows after finish. The belt for the drum is a different purchase: drum sander belt sizes.
Paper past the pad
The 230-volt manual says not to use an excessively oversized sanding disc. Paper that extends past the pad can snag, tear, or kick the tool. Cut the disc to the pad. That sentence is in the 230-volt manual. The 079600 manual reviewed here does not print it. The install step in both manuals is still to center the disc on the pad.
Keep the edger moving as you lower the pad. Both manuals say a pad that is not moving, or extra pressure, noses in and cuts a groove.
Shop by the model, then read the line
Use that lookup to find discs sold for this edger. Then read the diameter on the listing against the row in the table for your model number. A result that only says “7 inch” is not a match for a manual that prints 7 7/8 inch diameter.

FAQ
What disc does every Super 7R take?
There is not one line. The manual for models 07125A, 07013A, and 07013B prints 7 inch by 7 7/8 inch diameter disc. The 230-volt manual for 07098A, 07099A, and 07243A prints 7 inch by 7/8 inch disc. Order the line your model prints.
Is the second number the center hole?
Not on these pages. One manual prints 7 7/8 inch as the diameter. The other prints 7 inch by 7/8 inch and does not label the second figure as the arbor. Read the listing against the line in your manual.
Can I run a drum-sander belt on an edger?
No. The edger cuts with a disc on a pad. The drum sander cuts with a belt or a sleeve. Those sizes are on the belt-size page.
